Parliamentary meeting with school boards postponed due to lack of quorum and technical issues

Local | By Correspondent April 16, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - A planned meeting at the Curaçao parliament faced an unexpected setback on Monday morning as it failed to proceed. The anticipated meeting, aimed at addressing crucial matters concerning the social and emotional well-being of students, was called off due to insufficient attendance from members. Additionally, technical complications with the newly installed audiovisual system further contributed to the cancellation.

The President of the Parliament expressed regret over the inability to convene the meeting, emphasizing the significance of discussing topics related to the support and welfare of students, which are deemed vital for the island's educational landscape. The absence of a quorum and the incomplete installation of the parliamentary technology thwarted the smooth conduct of the scheduled proceedings.

Notably, representatives from all school boards had been invited to participate in the Central Committee meeting slated for Monday morning. However, the absence of sufficient parliamentary members and the unresolved technical issues led to the unavoidable cancellation of the session.

Looking ahead, uncertainties loom over the fate of a technical briefing set for the upcoming Friday by the Central Committee. The briefing, intended to address a proposed legislation concerning air quality standards in Curaçao, now hangs in the balance pending the successful completion of the audiovisual system. Should the system be operational by then, the briefing may proceed as planned, providing stakeholders with crucial insights into the proposed law.
