WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha will be present during the parliamentary debate on Giro Bank. This will take place on Tuesday, January 21 at 10 in the morning.
The minister will answer questions that were asked during the first round in mid-December 2019. Gijsbertha then received a heap of homework with more than 250 questions from Members of Parliament of both the opposition and the coalition and asked two weeks to be able to give the best possible answers in consultation with the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) and his ministry.
The majority of the 250 questions were about who is actually responsible for the fact that, despite the many years of emergency regulation, Giro Bank seems to suddenly be accelerating towards the end. The members of Parliament asked what is true of the reports that despite a lack of liquidity, large amounts were withdrawn from the bank for, among other things, a loan to Aqualectra and to the port of Sint Maarten.
