WILLEMSTAD – A delegation from the Parliament of Curaçao departed on Monday for Montevideo, Uruguay, to attend the 21st plenary assembly of ParlAmericas—an inter-parliamentary organization that brings together countries from North to South America.
Curaçao is not yet a member of ParlAmericas, but the trip serves as an orientation toward potential future membership. This year’s theme is “Legislation for the Future: Anticipatory Governance in Parliamentary Action.”
The invitation came from the Parliament of Uruguay. Curaçao has previously participated in other ParlAmericas gatherings, including a session in Costa Rica, which have already sparked discussions about strengthening the island's involvement in the organization.
In addition to members of the ruling MFK party, representatives from the PNP, PAR, and MAN-PIN factions are also taking part in the mission. A formal decision on membership is expected soon, based in part on the delegation’s findings and experiences in Montevideo.
The group is scheduled to return to Curaçao on May 31.
