WILLEMSTAD – Following a pause due to the March 21 elections, Curaçao’s Parliament will resume its activities on April 9 with a meeting of the Central Committee.
The upcoming meeting will address several key topics, including the parliamentary agenda, plans for an official visit to Panama, and Curaçao’s participation in an upcoming EUROLAT meeting. A legislative amendment introducing three new departmental titles within the Ministry of Justice will also be discussed. These new divisions are Law Enforcement, Public Order and Security, and Judicial Care, Execution, and Resocialization. In addition, the draft 2026 national budget will be reviewed.
Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl regarding the composition of the island’s next government, although no official confirmations have been made yet. Gilmar Pisas is expected to return as Prime Minister. Javier Silvania is rumored to take on both the Finance and Public Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) portfolios.
Shalten Hato is reportedly being considered for the post of Minister of Justice, while Roderick Middelhof could head the Ministry of Economic Development. Sithree van Heydoorn is expected to return as Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (OWCS), and Kimberly Lew Jen Tai as Minister of Administration, Planning and Services (BPD). Charles Cooper is set to remain as Minister of Traffic, Transportation and Spatial Planning (VVRP), and Charetti America is being considered for the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW).
Carlson Manuel is expected to be appointed as Minister Plenipotentiary in The Hague. Within Parliament, Fergino Brownbill is said to become the new Speaker, with Ramon Yung as Vice Speaker, and David Seferina as the new coalition leader.
