Parliament Resumes Debate on Curaçaohuis as Prime Minister Pisas Set to Answer Questions

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Parliament will resume its public session today to address the ongoing situation at the Curaçaohuis in The Hague, with Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas expected to respond to questions from members of Parliament.

The debate focuses on the management of the Curaçaohuis and the role of former Minister Plenipotentiary Carlson Manuel, whose tenure has come under scrutiny.

According to several members of Parliament, the issues in The Hague are not new. MP David Seferina stated that problems at the Curaçaohuis date back at least to 2010. Over the years, multiple reports have highlighted concerns including poor management, financial mismanagement, and labor-related issues.

Suzy Camelia-Römer (MAN-PIN) emphasized that political responsibility ultimately rests with the prime minister, regardless of Manuel’s departure.

Similarly, Quincy Girigorie (PAR) argued that the situation is structural rather than incidental. He called for clearer regulations, stronger oversight, and improved working conditions to prevent similar problems in the future.

The government had requested a postponement of the session last week, citing missing documents needed to respond fully to parliamentary questions. Parliament agreed to the delay.

The session is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Parliament chamber, where lawmakers are expected to seek clarity on long-standing concerns surrounding Curaçao’s representation in the Netherlands.
