WILLEMSTAD - The Parliament has scheduled a meeting to discuss the deal between Refineria di Kòrsou (RdK) and Oryx Midstream. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and RdK director Patrick Newman will consult on the agreement, which was signed on July 1. The discussion follows concerns raised by the trade union federation CGTC regarding a lack of transparency and clarity surrounding the agreement.
The union demands clarification on the terms, particularly regarding the promised return of jobs within the refinery. CGTC has criticized how the registration of job seekers at the refinery has been presented and wants to have a meeting with the government and RdK within a week.
CGTC believes that the decision does not adequately consider the community's opinion and that the process needs broader support. The CGTC also emphasizes the necessity of an environmental assessment, despite claims from RdK and Oryx that there will be no pollution.
Earlier, opposition parties and other unions expressed criticism of the deal, while some ministers and unions are optimistic about the job guarantee for around 260 people.
The meeting in Parliament is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3.
