WILLEMSTAD - Today, a Public Assembly took place in which Parliament accepted six new members after their credentials were reviewed and verified by a temporary committee. This committee consisted of Mr. Gilbert Doran (chairman), Mr. Juniël Carolina, and Mr. Shaheen Elhage. The committee concluded that the credentials were in order.
According to the Constitution, Parliament is responsible for investigating new members. The members accepted by Parliament, who will take office on June 9, 2025, are: Mr. Tyron Boekhoudt, Mr. Benito Desroches, Mr. Sandy Losiabaar, Mr. Franciss Lourens, and Mr. Shurendi Pieternella.
Following the Public Assembly, the resignation letters of the members who will be sworn in as ministers take immediate effect. The members who have resigned are Mr. Gilmar Pisas, Mr. Javier Silvania, Mr. Charles Cooper, Mrs. Charetti America-Francisca, Mr. Sithree Heydoorn, and Mr. Shalten Hato. This allows the six new members to formally take their seats in Parliament.
However, before the new members can occupy their seats and perform their duties, they must take an oath or make a promise before Her Excellency the Governor, Mrs. Lucille George-Wout. This ceremony will take place on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
