Local, | By Correspondent February 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Parliament continued its debate yesterday on the acquisition of new ambulance vehicles, with the Minister of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN), the director and members of the Supervisory Board of the ambulance service present during the session.

Minister Javier Silvania Boekhoudt provided an initial explanation on the issue, outlining the background and current status of the procurement process. Interim director John Cijntje then presented an overview of the steps already taken toward renewing the ambulance fleet.

Members of Parliament raised a series of questions regarding the purchase process, operational readiness and the broader modernization of the service. The minister requested additional time to respond in writing to the remaining questions.

Steps Toward Professionalization

Meanwhile, the new leadership of the ambulance service is working on further professionalization measures. As of April 1, a local medical specialist will begin providing support in advisory services and staff training.

Investments are also being made in security measures, including the installation of camera systems at ambulance posts and improved access control. In addition, discussions are ongoing to strengthen cooperation with the Curaçao Medical Center.

According to the ambulance service, these steps are intended to contribute to a more stable organization and to improve the overall quality of care delivered to the public.

The parliamentary debate is expected to continue once the minister submits the outstanding written responses.
