Parliament Considers Adding Rest Facilities and Sustainability Features to Future Building

WILLEMSTAD – The temporary committee overseeing plans for a new Parliament building has received input from Members of Parliament suggesting the inclusion of a dedicated rest area for MPs and parliamentary staff. Committee chair Juniel Carolina confirmed the proposal during this week’s parliamentary discussions on the committee's report.

Carolina noted that late-night sessions at Parliament sometimes stretch into the early hours of the morning, leaving some individuals sleeping on chairs in back rooms. He called this situation undesirable and said the idea of including a sleeping area or rest facility in the new building is worth serious consideration.

In addition to comfort and functionality, Carolina emphasized that sustainability and environmental friendliness are key priorities in the planning of the new facility. The committee aims to ensure the new Parliament building reflects modern design principles, including energy efficiency and climate-conscious construction.

This week’s parliamentary session focused on reviewing the committee’s report, which outlines long-term solutions to improve working conditions and accommodate the evolving needs of Curaçao’s legislative branch.
