Parliament chair Charetti America-Francisca promises meeting on tax debt relief

Local | By Correspondent September 10, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Parliament Chair Charetti America-Francisca of the MFK party has assured that Finance Minister Javier Silvania will be invited to Parliament next week to address the pressing issue of tax debt relief for debts incurred before 2017.

This commitment follows frustration expressed by MAN-MP Giselle Mc William, who has criticized the delay in convening an urgent meeting initially requested three weeks ago. Mc William highlights the critical nature of this issue, particularly for small business owners who had previously received relief but are now confronted with their outstanding tax obligations once more.

America-Francisca explained that the minister had been unable to attend the previously scheduled meetings due to being abroad. Despite this, Mc William has voiced significant concern over the ongoing delay and questioned the effectiveness of the Parliament Chair’s oversight in resolving the matter.

The meeting with Minister Silvania is now confirmed to take place next week, where it is expected that discussions will focus on providing solutions for the affected taxpayers and addressing their urgent concerns.
