Parliament chair calls for increased maturity during meetings

WILLEMSTAD - In a recent address to the press, Charetti America-Francisca, the Chair of Parliament, has called for a higher level of maturity and professionalism within the Parliament’s assembly room. Her remarks come as a response to a turbulent parliamentary year marked by unproductive discussions, heated arguments, and personal insults among members.

Reflecting on the past year, America-Francisca expressed her hope that her message will resonate not only with current parliamentarians but also with those contemplating a future in politics. She emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum and respect, particularly as the island enters an election and campaign period.

“I am aware that we are entering a time of elections and campaigning, but it is crucial for all involved to consider the impact of their behavior,” America-Francisca stated. Her comments underline a growing concern that the recent conduct within Parliament has undermined its integrity and public perception.

Throughout the last parliamentary year, the assembly’s proceedings have been marred by discussions lacking constructive value, personal attacks, and disputes. America-Francisca noted that such behavior has cast a shadow on the reputation of the Parliament, a respected institution.

The Chair’s call for maturity aims to restore respect and effective governance in the Staten, urging all members to reflect on their actions and strive for a more professional approach in their parliamentary duties.
