WILLEMSTAD - Member of Parliament Ana Maria Pauletta (PAR) is calling for new policies regarding waste collection and increased supervision. Additionally, she emphasizes the need for addressing littering along roadsides. This was outlined in a letter addressed to Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN) Javier Silvania (MFK).
The party had previously raised concerns as household waste containers were overflowing, leading to situations posing health risks due to uncollected waste. Selikor, the waste management company, struggled to cope with the workload, exacerbating the issue. The persisting odor added to the problem.
Pauletta notes that insufficient action has been taken, as evidenced by the ongoing plight of affected individuals. Residents in multiple neighborhoods have called on the government to address the problem.
In addition to household waste, the issue of littering needs to be tackled. "Especially in Ser'i Dòmi and Vèlt Salú, there is a significant litter problem," Pauletta stated. These areas serve as main thoroughfares, and the litter along the roadsides has led to traffic congestion.
