PAR Suffers Heavy Losses in Elections, Retains Only Two Seats

Local | By Correspondent March 24, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – The Partido Alternativa Real (PAR) has suffered another major setback in the Curaçao parliamentary elections, retaining only two seats. Party leader Quincy Girigorie described the result as disappointing and announced that the party would internally evaluate why its message did not resonate strongly with voters.

Compared to 2017, when PAR held six seats, the party has now lost two-thirds of its representation. In the 2025 elections, it suffered another one-third drop in votes. While Girigorie acknowledged that the party's platform remains valued by its loyal base, he admitted that the campaign should have been more engaging.

Girigorie also pointed out that the MFK successfully persuaded former PAR voters to switch sides, securing an absolute majority. "We congratulate MFK on their result. The people have spoken," he said.

Additionally, the party noted the absence of former leader Eugene Rhuggenaath, who previously attracted a significant number of preference votes. While Girigorie did not rule out the impact of Rhuggenaath’s departure, he stressed that the party would conduct a thorough and careful evaluation of its electoral defeat.
