WILLEMSTAD - The PAR faction has expressed concerns about the backlog in infrastructure maintenance on Curaçao by the Public Works Department (DOW). Poor maintenance of roads, guardrails, and green areas is leading to dangerous situations and flooding.
Many contractors are no longer willing to work with the government due to organizational issues within DOW, resulting in uncompleted work. Roads are becoming clogged with sand and flood during rain, guardrails remain damaged for months, and trees along the roads are not being pruned, creating hazardous traffic conditions.
"As a small island nation, Curaçao depends on strong infrastructure to withstand the effects of climate change, such as heavier rainfall, and to handle high traffic volumes," said the PAR party.
The PAR faction is urging Parliament Chairwoman Charetti America-Francisca to organize a committee meeting with Minister Charles Cooper to discuss solutions for infrastructure maintenance.
