WILLEMSTAD - The PAR faction is calling Curaçao’s rapid football ascent a historic turning point for the island. In a press statement, faction leader Quincy Girigorie said that a potential 2026 World Cup qualification should not be viewed solely as a sporting achievement, but as “a major step in the development of Curaçaoan football.”
According to PAR, Curaçao’s visibility on the international football stage is growing at remarkable speed. The party points to the national team’s recent victories over Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago—results that, according to Girigorie, place Curaçao among the pioneers of Caribbean and Central American football.
A New Era After Years of Talent Drain
Girigorie highlighted that Curaçao has long struggled with talented players leaving the island due to limited development opportunities. The fact that the national team has now become a serious alternative to playing for the Netherlands represents, according to PAR, a crucial step forward.
“If we continue to invest, Curaçao can grow into a country that develops its own football talent, just like we have done for years in baseball,” Girigorie stated.
Turning Pride Into Policy
The PAR leader urged the community and government to turn today’s national pride into long-term policy.
“Mama wak unda nos a yega,” Girigorie said. “But even more important is: where can we go as a country?”
With that message, PAR is calling for a broad, structured approach to give youth players more opportunities and to strengthen sports development across the island.
The faction believes Curaçao is now at a crossroads—one where strategic investment could transform football into a lasting source of national unity, youth development, and international recognition.
