WILLEMSTAD - Paid parking will be introduced in the downtown area later this year. The contract between the government and the Willemstad Parking Management Foundation will be signed next week.
The Willemstad Parking Management Foundation was established in 2022 by the Downtown Management Organization (DMO) and the Otrobanda Merchants' Society (SKO). DMO and SKO will take over parking management in downtown from Global Metals NV, under the name Parking Authority Curacao.
The current parking meters will be replaced so that payment can also be made digitally via a special app on smartphones. The new meters will be ordered after the contract is signed. The Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning (VVRP) states that it will be at least six months before paid parking is implemented.
