WILLEMSTAD – Swimming club Orca welcomed four top-level international trainers from the Netherlands last Saturday at the Bennie Leito Pool (PBL), giving more than fifty children aged 8 to 16 the chance to train with elite water polo players, including Olympian Lola Moolhuijzen.
Moolhuijzen, who represented the Netherlands at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, shared her experience and skills with the young athletes. Former Dutch international Bas de Jong and his son Boas also worked with the older youth and the U19 group, offering advanced tips on technique and game strategy.
Specialized Goalkeeper Training
Jelle van Rossum, a former goalkeeper for the Dutch junior national team, led a dedicated goalkeeper session focusing on blocking skills, shot-stopping techniques, and overall game awareness. He also provided guidance and feedback to all participants throughout the day.
The children trained in age-specific groups, working on warm-up routines, passing, shooting, and tactical understanding. Each activity was tailored to the skill level of the players. Orca’s U19 and senior teams also took part, alongside all club coaches.
Top Players Recognized
The clinic concluded with a shooting challenge against goalkeeper Van Rossum, allowing players to showcase their best technique. Giovianni Eisden was named best player in the under-12 category, while Jeremy James earned the title in the 14-and-over group.
The event followed the successful International Summer Water Polo Tournament held in July by Federashon Aquatico Kòrsou. Orca is now preparing to compete in a tournament in Peru this October.
Keeping the Bar High
The club’s annual collaboration with international stars ensures that Orca’s level remains high and continues to inspire both players and coaches. In addition to water polo, Orca offers young athletes opportunities in competitive swimming and synchronized swimming.
From September 8 to 12, Orca will host its annual Zwem4Daagse at the Bennie Leito Pool, inviting swimmers of all ages to complete 500 or 1,000 meters on four separate days. The event focuses on fun, fitness, and community spirit rather than competition.
