Orange Fund Selects Four Curaçao Finalists for "Appeltje van Oranje" Award

Local | By Press release March 31, 2025

THE HAGUE - Four organizations from Curaçao are in the running for an Appeltje van Oranje (Little Apple of Orange), an annual prize awarded by the Oranje Fonds (Orange Fund) to three outstanding social initiatives that make a difference. The contenders are Stichting ManUniko, Fundashon Pro Bista Korsou, Stichting Kinderbescherming Curaçao, and Human Rights Caribbean Foundation. These initiatives were chosen from 348 submissions and have now advanced to the final 50. A 10-day public voting period and a pitch day will determine which ten organizations secure a nomination. Queen Máxima will present the three awards on October 9 at Paleis Noordeinde.

Indispensable Links

This year’s theme is "Onmisbare Schakels" (Indispensable Links), recognizing organizations that play a vital role in their communities. The Orange Fund sought groups that identify gaps, address unmet needs, and create solutions, making them essential—not only to those they support but also to the governments and partners they collaborate with. These organizations bridge the gap between municipalities, care institutions, other volunteer groups, and the people who need their help, amplifying their impact.

Public Voting and Pitch Day

From May 19 to 28, the public can cast one vote per person on a dedicated website to support their favorite initiative. The organization with the most votes will secure the first nomination. The remaining contenders will present their work to a jury in June, which will then select the nine other nominees.

About the "Appeltjes van Oranje"

The Orange Fund awards the Appeltjes van Oranje each year to three initiatives that foster an inclusive and engaged society. Eligible organizations must be unique, creative, and meaningful, with at least two years of active service. Winning an Appeltje brings recognition for their efforts and a €25,000 prize, which can be used freely within the organization’s mission.

The award includes a bronze statuette designed by Princess Beatrix, and the ceremony is traditionally hosted by Queen Máxima at Paleis Noordeinde.
