Opposition MPs want urgent meeting on CPR’s forged documents to operate the refinery

Local | By Correspondent January 3, 2023

WILLEMSTAD – Members of Parliament for the opposition parties PAR and MAN have requested an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas to get more information about the current process to reopen the refinery.

Another reason for this meeting is the recent report that the preferred bidder, the Caribbean Petroleum Refinery (CPR) has presented forged documents in the process of finding a new operator for the refinery.

President of Parliament Charetti America-Francisca says she has received the request and will consider it.

Recently, the Members of Parliament have presented a motion on the refinery. The MPs have adopted this during the public meeting on the 2023 national budget. This motion has three decisions that deals with the process of finding a new operator for the refinery. The opposition MPs are now using this motion as a reason for their request.

In the motion, parliament urges the government to inform the people regularly about the negotiation process. Parliament also urges the government to present the bill proposal on the environment which creates a norm for pollution.

The third point is for the government to have concrete developments in the negotiations with CPR, otherwise, the process should be restarted.

Now that sources have informed the media about forged documents, which was later confirmed by the Curaçao Refinery (RdK), the opposition MPs want the Prime Minister to come to Parliament and explain to the people what his government will do. “We urge the President of Parliament to call a meeting as soon as possible,” said the MPs in their letter.
