Local | By Press release March 13, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Sports Development Foundation (FDDK) is excited to invite the public, especially softball enthusiasts, to the grand opening of the 18th edition of the "Helping Others Persevere & Excel" (HOPE) Softball Tournament. This annual event has become a tradition in the community, providing an unforgettable experience for both players and spectators.

The tournament is organized by FDDK at the request of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Sithree "Cey" van Heydoorn. The official opening will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Van Engelen field, where Minister Van Heydoorn will throw the first pitch, and FDDK Director Virgilie Winklar will take the first swing.

A Dynamic Start to the Tournament

To kick off the competition in an exciting way, a "Challenge Game" will be played among all registered COED teams—mixed-gender teams featuring both male and female players. This will be followed by the official inaugural match, where teams will compete at their highest level to start the tournament strong.

The theme for HOPE 2025 is: "More Atmosphere, More Sports, More Friendship!"
This aligns with FDDK’s mission to create a tournament that fosters team spirit, sportsmanship, and respect among teams.

An Expanding Tournament with More Opportunities

This year, HOPE 2025 will provide teams with more game opportunities, allowing participants to play more matches in the first round, ensuring greater value for their investment and efforts. The tournament serves as a platform for talent development and strengthening friendships among players, families, and fans.

The competition will feature 52 teams across five categories:

Men’s Commercial

Women’s Commercial

COED Commercial (Mixed-Gender)

Men’s 40+ Commercial

Men’s Non-Commercial

The matches will begin on Saturday, March 15, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, featuring 11 games, followed by 14 additional games on Sunday.

Each team will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and sportsmanship, with an emphasis on "fair play" and unity. Special awards, such as "Sportsmanship" and "Best Fan Team", will be presented as a token of appreciation for those demonstrating outstanding team spirit and passionate support.

HOPE: More Than Just a Tournament

HOPE is more than just a softball competition—it is a celebration of community and sportsmanship in Curaçao. Each year, the tournament continues to grow, not only in the number of participating teams but also in organizational quality and competitive level.

FDDK remains committed to promoting sports as a means of social unity and physical well-being. Through HOPE, the foundation aims to inspire people of all ages to engage in physical activity and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

A Community Celebration with Music and Entertainment

The HOPE 2025 opening ceremony will be accompanied by musical performances from ORIRI, Adjatay, and Jefdeney, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity. A well-stocked food and beverage area will offer a variety of dishes and drinks, ensuring a lively and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

Everyone is invited to support and enjoy the HOPE 2025 tournament, where sports, camaraderie, and excitement take center stage. Come and be part of this amazing initiative as FDDK continues to promote movement and fitness across all age groups in our community!
