WILLEMSTAD - Join us on Saturday morning, September 16th, at Hofi Cas Cora to view the results of the Farm to Crafts workshop on 'botanical dyeing' with Loret Karman. Farm to Crafts is hosting an open day where everyone is welcome to come and see the outcomes of the 'botanical dyeing' workshops. These workshops, led by color expert Loret Karman, have been taking place from September 9th to 15th. Botanical dyeing involves extracting dyes from various parts of plants, such as leaves, bark, roots, fruits, and flowers. Well-known examples of natural dyes include indigo, turmeric, and various types of tree barks. "The ingredients from the Curaçaoan nature are invaluable to botanical dye experts," says Loret Karman. During the open day at Hofi Cas Cora, you can see the results of botanical dyeing with Curaçaoan materials from 9 AM to 12 PM. Additionally, visitors aged 4 and older, under the guidance of Loret Karman, can also color a piece of fabric or yarn in the natural dye baths.

About Loret Karman
Loret Karman is a color expert. She was born in Papua and partially raised in Curaçao, in a family where the love for textiles has been passed down through generations. She herself has been trained in textile techniques. In her own studio in Amsterdam, she hand-dyes knitting and embroidery yarns with great respect for traditional craftsmanship. Loret offers both short and long workshops, always focusing on the importance of color. She has previously conducted research in Curaçao on colors and minerals that can be used in natural dyeing. Loret holds a deep affection for the island, and the knowledge she shares during her workshops is a contribution to the Farm to Crafts project and the island.
About Farm to Crafts
Farm to Crafts is a creative research project exploring the possibilities of reviving small-scale agriculture using local resources in Curaçao, aimed at developing materials and crafts. The project's foundation is 'learning by doing,' thereby creating a dynamic environment for research and production. The various activities of the project facilitate interactions between farmers, craftsmen, designers, experts, and interested parties, based on participation and reciprocity. With this project, Farm to Crafts aims to: (1) encourage collaboration between Curaçaoan farmers and creative entrepreneurs to mobilize the energy and strength of the local community around practical experiments. (2) Create space for dialogue, understanding, and connection through agriculture and manufacturing processes. And (3) demonstrate to a broad audience that agriculture continues to be a source of valuable resources, offering prospects for a more creative, sustainable, and less dependent Curaçao.
