WILLEMSTAD - Reda Sosial will refurbish between ninety and one hundred houses that are currently in a deplorable condition. Six months have been set aside for the project, with costs amounting to one and a half million guilders, or about 15,000 per house.
The last time Reda Sosial received funding from the government was in 2018 for a total amount of 1.5 million guilders for the project. Ultimately, only 100,000 guilders were disbursed. The Ministry of Social Development has promised improvement and will now disburse the promised one and a half million.
Reda Sosial manages a list of requests that come in from various agencies, neighborhood organizations, Reda Sosial itself, and through the Ministry of SOAW.
Each request is analyzed before a house is repaired. Reda Sosial collects information before a person qualifies for the project.
Various factors are taken into account, including the social situation in the house, who owns the house and land. In most cases, homes of the elderly who are solely dependent on their pension or social welfare benefits are repaired.
In extreme cases, homes are also built for people in dire need whose homes cannot be repaired.
