WILLEMSTAD - Ombudsman Keursly Concincion received the most complaints about the Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Spatial Planning (VVRP) in 2023, totaling 65 complaints. Of the 17 investigations conducted by the Ombudsman, 10 were related to this ministry. This is detailed in the 2023 annual report, which Concincion presented this week to Parliament Chair Charetti America-Francisca.
In 2023, the Ombudsman handled a total of 710 requests. Most of these concerned the government's lax attitude towards responding to letters from citizens and organizations. After VVRP, the Ministry of Justice received 64 complaints, and the Ministry of Finance received 40 complaints. Of the 17 investigations, 15 were about how the government performs its duties, with recommendations for various ministries. There were 10 reports and 18 recommendations concerning VVRP; 2 reports and 7 recommendations regarding Justice; 2 reports and 4 recommendations for Health, Environment, and Nature; and 1 report and 2 recommendations for Economic Development.
Additionally, the annual report highlights the twentieth anniversary of the Ombudsman in 2023. This milestone was used to reflect on the future and enhance the effectiveness of the institution. A significant outcome was the reform towards a more accessible institution, aimed at fairer public transportation, which was achieved in 2023.
