OM: Popular Sint Maarten politician received 4 million from construction companies

PHILIPSBURG, WILLEMSTAD - According to the Public Prosecution Service in Philipsburg, Theo Heyliger has accepted a bribe of around 4 million dollars from construction companies.

The money came from various companies including Windward Roads and the Caribbean subsidiary company of the Dutch construction group Volker Stevin.

Heyliger received the money in cash, via money transfer or in kind, such as an area and the renovation of his house. In return, the companies received government contracts.
