WILLEMSTAD - The ABVO civil servants' union is urging for a long-overdue enhancement in holiday allowances for public officials. Currently fixed at 6%, a percentage that, as per the union, has remained static for approximately two decades. The primary goal is to elevate it to 8.3%, aligning it with the holiday allowance rate prevalent in the private sector.
ABVO President George Hernandez underscores the positive impact of such an increase on the local economy. He affirms, "Civil servants will inject this money into the economy, fostering increased cash flow locally." The matter is slated for discussion shortly during the Central Organized Consultation in Civil Service Affairs (CGOA).
