Notary Association Warns of Fake Notaries Targeting Real Estate Buyers in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD The Antillean Aruban Notarial Association (AANV) has issued a warning about fake notaries who are actively attempting to defraud individuals in Curaçao, primarily targeting prospective real estate buyers.

These impostors reportedly contact victims via email, posing as legitimate notaries and requesting payments to foreign bank accounts. The scammers often strike during the early stages of a property transaction, before a real notary is officially involved.

According to the AANV, at least two attempted fraud cases have been recorded recently. The organization urges the public to remain vigilant and to verify the identity and credentials of any notary involved in a transaction, especially before transferring any funds.

Authorities advise buyers to consult directly with reputable notary offices and to avoid responding to suspicious emails.
