'Norm for top income medical specialists undesirable'

Local | By Correspondent March 10, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Yesterday, former minister Pietersz-Janga gave her vision on the standardization law for top incomes. According to her, this law should not apply to medical specialists. She had submitted her vision to the governor, together with her letter of resignation.

According to the resigned Minister of Health, the short and long-term consequences have not been sufficiently considered. There is a great risk that the costs of health care will rise much more than the savings. Healthcare will also decline sharply. The law makes it unattractive for medical specialists to work here. In other parts of the Kingdom, an exception is made for them.

The law was passed by Parliament in December 2022 and has come a long way. The law was already passed in 2016, but did not enter into force. Under pressure from the Netherlands, the law has been pulled out of the drawer again. In exchange for corona support, the government had to introduce certain measures, including the standardization of top incomes. Aruba and Sint Maarten already preceded Curaçao.
