WILLEMSTAD – Nominations are now open for the Cross of Merit, an annual award presented on July 2nd, Flag Day. This year marks the 22nd edition of the prestigious honor. From March 10 to April 11, 2025, residents are invited to nominate candidates.
Any Curaçao resident who holds Dutch nationality and is over 18 years old can submit a nomination. To do so, a form must be filled out on the organization's website, providing personal details and a comprehensive motivation explaining the nominee's contributions. All information must be submitted in typed format.
The Cross of Merit recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the Curaçao community. “Recognizing our own people contributes to our patriotism, a key pillar for the Curaçao we want to build together,” said the government.
Conditions for Nomination
Contrary to the government's claim, the nomination requirements also allow for "non-native" individuals to be nominated. In addition to Dutch nationality, candidates must reside in Curaçao and be at least 50 years old. They should exhibit exemplary behavior and, in addition to their regular work, must have actively contributed to the community's well-being for at least five years. This contribution must be supported by tangible results from their efforts.
