No extended validity for gambling licenses

Local | By Correspondent January 2, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The licenses issued for gambling should continue to have a limited validity period. This is the advice given by the Advisory Council (RvA).

This pertains to the National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK). The current situation is that licenses are currently issued for a specific period, which, according to RvA, will remain unchanged. A license is not granted casually but must comply with specific regulations.

The assessment of a new license is preventive, and supervision always remains in effect. The licenses are periodically reviewed, and this period remains unchanged. The risk of issues arising in online gambling, especially those regulated remotely, is greater than in traditional gambling.

The positive reputation of Curaçao as a country with a significant offering of online gambling services also plays a role. To maintain this status, it is important to regularly check the licenses, according to RvA.
