No coordination between Dutch Ministries in supporting CAS countries

Local | By Correspondent May 19, 2023

THE HAGUE - The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, independently of each other, seem to be providing support to the governments of Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten in implementing international treaties.

Minister Wopke Hoekstra of Foreign Affairs (BZ) has reported this in a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives. Due to the "overlap," the minister plans to "engage in consultations with the State Secretary for Kingdom Relations and Digitization in the near future to explore the possibility of integrating the two initiatives."

The fact that the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations has initiated its own support process, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs already has its own approach in place, is particularly noteworthy considering that State Secretary Alexandra Van Huffelen plays a coordinating role between ministries and the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom.
