No contract between maritime sector and Meteo

WILLEMSTAD - Oil platforms and other ships do not receive any special information from the Meteorological Department of Curacao. This is according to Albert Martis, director of the Service.

He responds to the report from the oil platform that damaged the coral at Boca Sami last month. The Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) states that the crew knew too late that a storm would come and therefore could no longer sail away on time.

Martis explains that, unlike aviation, such platforms depend on the same information as the citizen. He does, however, emphasize his support for arranging a contract for this in a different way with, for example, information adjusted for risks to shipping.
