WILLEMSTAD - State Secretary Alexandra van Huffelen of Kingdom Relations says that "no coercion or abuse of circumstances" took place when closing corona loans with Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. She says this in response to questions from the Party for the Animals.
Earlier, the government of Curaçao stated that the conditions to cut the salaries of ministers and civil servants have been put under pressure. The Netherlands made loans available during the corona pandemic. The discount on salaries had a direct effect on the country's liquidity problems, says Van Huffelen. According to her, those conditions were set in line with the working methods of the International Monetary Fund and the European Union. According to the State Secretary, nothing wrong happened.
