WILLEMSTAD - The renovation of the dilapidated Chinese clubhouse in Scharloo has not yet started. The Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Chinese community in Curaçao have not yet reached an agreement on the facelift of the historic building. State Secretary Van Huffelen writes this to the Dutch House of Representatives.
In April, the Netherlands made half a million euros available for the renovation. The donation is reparation for the April murders. Eighty years ago, fifteen Chinese sailors were shot dead in Curaçao by the military police. The Chinese protested against the poor working conditions at Shell.
