HONOLULU - If it’s up to the Local2030 Islands Network, an international Community of Practice (CoP) meeting on water management will be held next year in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
The network is a global platform for island states to share their knowledge and experiences regarding the impacts of climate change. The islands in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom are also connected to the network. The plan to hold a CoP in the Caribbean in 2025 was announced by Local2030 Islands Network vice-chair Celeste Connors in an interview published in the latest newsletter of BES envoy for Caribbean Netherlands Edison Rijna. The BES envoy is closely involved in the preparation of the meeting. In the interview, Connors discusses what the network means for the participating islands. During the last CoP in Hawaii, Sint Eustatius and Saba joined.
The newsletter also features an interview with the Kingdom's Climate Envoy Jaime de Bourbon de Parme. He talks about his efforts for the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, but also addresses the dilemma of growing tourism versus sustainability.
It's not just high-profile figures who are featured. For instance, Bonairian entrepreneur Nadine Emerenciana from Punta Blanku Farms NV enthusiastically talks about the trade mission to Colombia, which she participated in with 34 fellow companies.
