New opportunities for Advent Hospital

Local | By Correspondent September 1, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - After nine years, the government of Curaçao has amended six ministerial decrees, allowing Advent Hospital to provide comprehensive healthcare.

In 2015, Advent Hospital acquired the Taams Clinic. However, the permits stipulated that Advent should merge into one large national hospital with a centralized administration.

This was legally impossible because the hospital is an international part of the Advent Hospital Network and operates as a foundation in Curaçao.

Nevertheless, the old ministerial decrees remained in effect, and previous governments had no intention of amending them. This significantly hindered the growth and development of Advent, even jeopardizing the hospital's accreditation in the future.

Minister Javier Silvania has now removed the restrictive clauses from the permits. This opens up new opportunities for Advent Hospital, such as establishing a full-fledged ophthalmology department to address the current shortage of ophthalmologists.
