New License Plate Distribution Delayed Until March

Local, | By Correspondent February 18, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The issuance of Curaçao’s new vehicle license plates has been delayed, as the plates have not yet arrived on the island. As a result, the planned distribution is now expected to be pushed back to March.

The Ministry of Finance of Curaçao announced in January that distribution would begin in the third week of February. It has since become clear, however, that delivery of the license plates is taking longer than anticipated. According to the ministry, two containers carrying the new plates are currently en route. The first shipment is expected to arrive on February 23, followed by a second shipment on March 5.

Distribution will only begin once both shipments have arrived. The rollout is therefore now expected to take place sometime in March. The license plates will be issued from the former Las Vegas Supermarket building at the Las Vegas Shopping Center.

The introduction of the new license plates comes after ten years of use of the current series. The project involves an estimated cost of 2.4 million guilders. Curaçao currently has an estimated 90,000 to 100,000 vehicles in circulation. Motorists have already been able to pay their motor vehicle tax in anticipation of receiving the new plates.
