WILLEMSTAD - New FM frequencies for radio broadcasts are once again available in Curaçao. Interested parties can apply to start or expand their own radio station, and the process for requesting these frequencies is now open.
With the release of several frequencies, interested parties have the opportunity to submit applications for a radio broadcast network. However, this option is not available to those who already own two or more radio broadcast companies, either directly or indirectly. This measure is intended to promote a fair and diverse radio landscape on the island.
Candidates wishing to submit an application must provide specific information. This information, along with the terms and explanations for the issuance of frequencies, can be found in the application form and the document "Terms and Explanations for the Issuance of Available FM Frequencies for a Radio Broadcast 2023." Both documents are available on the website of the Bureau of Telecommunications and Post or can be digitally sent upon request.
The responsible ministry has also indicated that an information session will take place on January 26, 2024, at the office of the Bureau of Telecommunications and Post. During this session, interested parties can ask questions about the application process.
The deadline for submitting applications is set for February 23, 2024, at 12:00 noon. Applications can be submitted by email or on a USB stick at the reception of the Bureau of Telecommunications and Post.
The issuance of new FM frequencies is a significant step for media diversity and development in Curaçao. It provides new opportunities for existing and future broadcasters and strengthens the local radio industry. With this development, radio stations can reach a broader audience and offer a more diverse range of programs, contributing to the cultural and informative richness of the island.
