THE HAGUE - The newly formed Dutch House of Representatives Committee on Kingdom Relations will hold its first official meeting on November 26, marking the start of a new parliamentary term focused on relations within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The committee will be provisionally chaired by Songül Mutluer of the GroenLinks–PvdA party alliance.
The installation of the new Members of Parliament took place today, including Heera Dijk, who has been appointed by D66 as the party’s spokesperson on Kingdom Relations, and Annabel Nanninga, who will represent JA21 on the committee.
During its first session later this month, the committee will determine, among other matters, which pending policy files will be declared “controversial” — meaning they will not be handled until a new Dutch cabinet is formed.
To support the new members, the parliamentary secretariat has compiled an extensive introductory dossier outlining key issues concerning the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom — Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten (the CAS countries) and the Caribbean Netherlands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba).
In addition, members will receive a technical briefing on December 10, conducted by officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), to deepen their understanding of governance, financial frameworks, and ongoing cooperation with the Caribbean territories.
The reconstituted committee will play a central role in shaping future debates and oversight regarding Kingdom affairs, including topics such as governance, economic resilience, climate cooperation, and justice reform in the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom.
