WILLEMSTAD - The plan is for the new round of COVID vaccinations to commence on December 11th. In the Netherlands, this new vaccination round has already begun.
The date of December 11th is mentioned in a letter from the Head of Medical and Health Affairs, Melissa Arias, at the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature. Delays were experienced due to 'unforeseen circumstances,' including issues with the relocation of the vaccine storage and inadequate power supply at the new storage facility.
"Regular power outages by Aqualectra pose a significant risk to the vaccine's shelf life," according to Arias. To address this situation, a new lease contract for a generator and repairs to the building were necessary.
Once the cooling equipment is approved by the RIVM in the Netherlands, the COVID vaccines can be transported from the Netherlands to Curaçao, with the vaccination campaign expected to kick off on December 11th.
The target group includes individuals aged 60 or older, younger individuals eligible for a flu shot, individuals at a high medical risk, pregnant women, individuals residing in a (care) facility, and healthcare workers.
