WILLEMSTAD - The Supervision and Enforcement Project Team (PTH) of the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning (VVRP) will extend its oversight to the public transportation sector. This was announced by Humphrey Davelaar, an employee of Minister Charles Cooper. The team, initially established for supervision and maintaining order in various sectors, will now focus on control within public transportation.
Davelaar emphasizes the necessity of this expansion given the numerous complaints about illegal taxis, buses deviating from their routes, and unauthorized transportation without permits. He suggests applying administrative coercion against violators and underscores the importance of preventive control and issuing fines to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
PTH will gradually broaden its scope, including not only urban planning and maritime authority but now also public transportation. Davelaar highlights the need for this step as the police, due to their versatile tasks, are unable to carry out structural preventive controls in the sector.
Additionally, Minister Cooper has appointed Davelaar as the chairperson of all public transportation committees. Together, they will work on the restructuring of public transportation. A proposed plan involves collaboration between smaller buses and the ABC Bus Company, aiming for more efficient transportation within neighborhoods. Davelaar advocates for a dialogue with bus drivers to involve them in these changes and emphasizes that change is inevitable to address the issues and high costs in the sector.
