THE HAGUE - The Dutch political party CDA supports new sanctions against Venezuela. Member of Parliament Derk Boswijk raised questions today with Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp regarding this issue. He asserts that the Netherlands should explicitly recognize the victory of the Venezuelan opposition. To achieve this, he wants The Hague to advocate for sanctions in an international context. Additionally, he seeks to understand how the Dutch government and the European Union plan to support and strengthen the opposition in Venezuela.
Boswijk points out that many countries, governments, and international organizations have already recognized opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia as the legitimately elected president of Venezuela. He questions Schoof and Veldkamp on why the Netherlands and the European Union have not yet chosen to explicitly acknowledge the opposition's victory and how long the Dutch government will allow the Venezuelan National Electoral Council to withhold the official vote data.
