WILLEMSTAD – The youth of Totolika were treated to a special surprise on Friday when Nedion Sluis, Rei di Tumba Chiki 2026, made a guest appearance at their annual carnival celebration, Karnavalika.

Despite a busy schedule during the carnival season, Sluis took time to attend the event, which has been a longstanding tradition supported by Kiwanis Club Curaçao. His presence added extra excitement to the festivities as the young participants celebrated in the lead-up to the children’s carnival parade.

The reigning Tumba King, Charelson “Sontje” Mercelina, was unable to attend due to other commitments.

According to the organizers, Karnavalika has been a cherished tradition for more than 30 years, serving as a highlight in the run-up to the children’s carnival celebrations. Held at the Totolika building, the event featured three hours of music, dancing and shared enjoyment.

A disc jockey kept the energy high with a continuous carnival program, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and joy. The smiles and vibrant participation of the youth underscored the importance of the event within the community.

Members of Kiwanis Club Curaçao were also present, joining the children on the dance floor and singing along to the music. The club’s president, Getmar Caldera, addressed the young attendees and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the annual celebration, noting that the children’s happiness and excitement make the initiative especially meaningful.

Karnavalika once again demonstrated the power of community involvement in creating memorable experiences for Curaçao’s youth during the carnival season.
