Navy intercepts more than 2.2 tons of cocaine in four days

Local | By Correspondent April 4, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Between March 10 and 13, the Dutch navy intercepted four drug shipments in the Caribbean Sea, seizing more than 2.2 tons of cocaine.

The so-called go-fasts were discovered by the maritime patrol aircraft of the Caribbean Coast Guard. After the report about the go-fasts, the station ship Zr.Ms. Holland dispatched the US Coast Guard helicopter and two high-speed interceptors that were on board.

Two of the four go-fasts surrendered immediately, the other two only after firing a few warning shots.

A total of ten suspects and the contraband have been handed over to the US Coast Guard. The suspected smugglers are being prosecuted in the United States and the contraband has been destroyed.

Zr.Ms. Holland has been active in the region as a Caribbean station ship since October 2022 and alternately works with the Caribbean Coast Guard and the US Coast Guard. There are now 13,000 kilos of intercepted drugs in the name of Zr.Ms. Holland.
