WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Economic Development and the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports signed the national decree (landsbesluit) for the Creative Industry Commission of Curaçao this morning in a vibrant and creative setting.
The decree regulates the establishment of a commission with representatives from both the public and private sectors, aiming to promote collaboration within the creative sector and enhance coordination over the next four years.

The commission's formation is one of the actions outlined in the National Export Strategy (NES) 2022-2027 for the Creative Industry sector. The Curaçao NES 2022-2027 for the Creative Industry sector is an official document prepared by the Government of Curaçao with technical support from the International Trade Centre (ITC), based on research and consultations with key partners in the creative industry on the island. The export strategy focuses on the development of three subsectors with strong export potential, such as music, video/film, and marketing, communication, and web design (MarCom), but does not exclude other subsectors of the creative industry.
Creative sector associations, such as the Curaçao Musicians and Artists Association (AMAK), as well as the Film Commissioner of Curaçao and supporting entities like the Chamber of Commerce and CBS, are part of the commission alongside other prominent organizations. Commission members will establish priorities for the first two years, tied to a budget that will be presented to potential co-financiers, including the Government and the private sector.
Some action points from the NES 2022-2027 action plan for Curaçao's Creative Industry sector include quantifying the creative sector and applying methods to measure its performance regularly; prioritizing and potentially establishing an association covering all subsectors within the creative industry and introducing a Creative Industries Development Week.
Olga Kohmula, associate trade strategy and competence advisor at ITC, was also present at this commemorative moment and delivered remarks.
The ministers signed the decree in the presence of commission members and other stakeholders. For the Minister of Economic Development, this decree signifies a crucial first step in boosting Curaçao's creative industry. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports emphasized fostering skills and cultivating talent. The event concluded with a dance symbolizing collaboration.
