WILLEMSTAD - In 2024, the National Archive Curaçao marks its 55th anniversary with a year filled with significant activities. Planned events include two conferences in March and June, along with the launch of a commemorative edition of a crucial source book. The archive is also taking steps towards digitization and heritage management.
One of the highlights of the anniversary year is the scheduled reissue of the source book '1795 The Slave Revolt on Curaçao,' originally published in 1974 and edited by Jandi Paula. This new edition includes additional sources that were absent from the first edition. The National Archive hopes to provide more information about this release soon.
Aligned with the festivities, the archive is expanding its professional capabilities. Approval has been granted to appoint new certified heritage managers in 2024, contributing to a more balanced team and ensuring the effective execution of professional duties.
A significant move towards modernization is the recent installation of a new A1 book scanner. This advanced device plays a crucial role in the ongoing program to further populate the e-depot, expanding the archive's digital footprint.
Lastly, in 2024, a minor restoration of the 'Bolo di Batrei' monument is scheduled. Additionally, solar panels will be installed on the depot's roof, contributing to the 24-hour climate control necessary for preserving the national documentary heritage.
