WILLEMSTAD - Ana Maria Pauletta, a Member of Parliament for the opposition party PAR, has issued a scathing critique of the current management of the Fundashon Kas Popular (FKP), accusing the ruling party MFK of turning the housing foundation into a "playground" for political allies. Pauletta raised concerns about the integrity and transparency of the FKP, highlighting several instances of alleged misconduct and favoritism.
According to Pauletta, key figures from the MFK party, operating under the guise of the company HD&M, secured a lucrative million-dollar deal with FKP. As part of this arrangement, certain representatives reportedly received houses in the Rif area for free. Pauletta claims that MFK has now taken control of the 'Mi Casa Ya' housing project and is using it as an opportunity for world travel, ostensibly representing FKP and Curaçao on the international stage.
Pauletta accused MFK of underestimating the intelligence of Curaçao's citizens, suggesting that the party is trying to manipulate public opinion and benefit from FKP at every turn. She pointed out a pattern of controversial actions over the past two years, suggesting that the party's intentions are purely self-serving.
The MP recalled a previous incident where FKP attempted to give away homes in the Rif area to MFK affiliates. It was only after significant pushback from local women in the community that FKP retracted this plan. Furthermore, Pauletta mentioned a suspicious request for government intervention from FKP, where they allegedly sought to secure one million florins for an MFK affiliate based on fabricated claims involving Giro Settlement Holding.
Pauletta also highlighted the questionable handling of the 'Mi Casa Ya' project, where MFK representatives have been traveling extensively, reportedly using public funds allocated for housing projects. She criticized these expenditures, pointing out that the funds should be directed toward building and repairing homes for those in need, rather than financing trips for political gain.
The PAR MP called out the MFK associates for exploiting FKP, claiming that they have initiated several phantom projects to funnel money to their own representatives instead of using it for its intended purpose—providing housing solutions. Pauletta questioned the party's ethical standards, stating that MFK's "moral compass is damaged" and urging the people of Curaçao not to remain silent in the face of these alleged abuses.
In her statement, Pauletta made a direct appeal to Minister Cooper, demanding immediate action to halt what she described as ongoing misconduct within FKP. She also called for the swift removal of HD&M from any involvement with the housing foundation to ensure transparency and fairness. Pauletta emphasized that the primary mission of FKP should be to serve the housing needs of the people of Curaçao, not to act as a political playground for party cronies.
