WILLEMSTAD – The civic movement Movementu Kousa Promé will organize a public demonstration on Thursday, September 11, under the title “Curaçao Zona di Pas” (Curaçao Peace Zone). The event will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Parke Alameda in Wilhelmina Park, Punda.
According to the organizers, the manifestation is meant to send a strong signal against the presence of U.S. military operations in the region. In their announcement, the group states that Curaçao “cannot stand by while our territory is used for foreign interests and military provocations.” They describe the actions of U.S. President Donald Trump as “complete madness.”
The movement argues that Curaçao is put at risk when U.S. warships and aircraft use the island as part of their operations. They cite the bilateral agreement between the Netherlands and the United States that grants U.S. defense units access to Curaçaoan territory.
In their call to action, the organizers criticize the Curaçao government for failing to take steps to protect the population and accuse Parliament of “closing its eyes to aggression and manipulation.” Citizens are urged to unite and promote a message of peace and autonomy.
The accompanying manifesto stresses that Curaçao should remain a land for peace and development, not for war. It calls for respect for international law and national sovereignty and insists that Venezuela’s natural wealth belongs to its people.
The demonstration will be led by Indira Boelbaai and Ellen Maduro, who emphasize that the invitation is open to all who believe in “a Curaçao of respect, unity, and peace.”
