Motion on slavery past unanimously adopted, promoting equality and equal opportunities

Local | By Correspondent May 24, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Equality and equal opportunities for development are key themes that should be at the forefront of discussions regarding the future of the Kingdom. This was the essence of a motion unanimously adopted in parliament yesterday. The parliamentary session was held to address the response to the report on the chains of the past. In light of this report, the Rutte cabinet has expressed apologies for the Dutch involvement in the history of slavery.

The Parliament urges the Curaçao government to engage in discussions with the Netherlands to enhance the educational standards on the islands, ensuring they are on par with those in the Netherlands. This will enable young people to reach their full potential and provide all citizens within the Kingdom with equal opportunities.
