WILLEMSTAD - The biggest cause why fathers don't have contact with their child is the mother. This is the conclusion of a research performed by the Child Protection Foundation Curaçao.

Factors, why the mother stands in the way of contact, include the father's lack of financial resources, responsible behavior or relationship problems with the mother. A new partner can also play a role.

Child Protection did the research with the aim of eventually reuniting fathers with their children in order to build a better bond. Unfortunately, this last phase could not be started due to lack of money.

Child psychologist Diane Djaoen of child protection services does emphasize that fathers can turn to them at any time for possible mediation.
