WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch lawyer Moszkowicz has requested a postponement in the Themis case. He's defending C. Lake, one of the four suspects. The postponement should apply until the highest court in the Netherlands decides on the use of PGP phones.
In the Themis case, an investigation was conducted into criminal offenses committed in recent years in the various countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and in other countries.
Lake was sentenced to eight years in prison in the First Instance but has appealed against that sentence. He insists he is completely innocent.
The First Instance conviction was based on several conversations overheard between Quant and Lake, in which they talked constantly about block profits, cash amounts, drug shipments, and pictures of drugs being sent by phone.
In addition to a stay, Moszkowicz also asked for Lake's detention to be suspended pending the hearing of his case, but the Court rejected this.
23 million
The Public Prosecution Service accuses Lake of laundering nearly 23 million guilders. In addition, Lake is considered the right-hand man of Shurandy "Tyson" Quant, who is regarded by the Public Prosecution Service as the leader of the NLS gang, a criminal organization.
Lake is also said to have been a member of it, to have handled Quant's financial affairs and to be his confidante.
The case will again be heard pro forma on June 8, after which the court will announce a new date for the hearing.
